What is a PLAC?

The (DfE) defines previously looked after children as no longer in care but still eligible for Pupil Premium Plus (PP+) funding and specific school support, focusing on educational needs after leaving care.

Leigh Academy Strood will ensure:

  • We provide a safe and secure environment where education is valued and there is a belief in the abilities and potential of all children.
  • We provide support to all  students who are LAC and PLAC and give them access to every opportunity to achieve their potential and enjoy learning.
  • The Designated Teacher is appropriately qualified and experienced, as having the responsibility to promote the educational achievement of LAC and PLAC.
  • We are aware of LAC and PLAC’s SEN needs, and be able to identify signs of potential social, emotional and mental health issues these children may experience.
  • We adopt a whole-school approach to safeguarding arrangements and child protection, ensuring it is central to its schools’ processes.
  • Work collaboratively with Local Authorities, parents/carers and virtual schools to promote the educational achievement of registered LAC or PLAC.
