Dear Parents/Carers,
Invitation to Consider the Duke of Edinburgh Award for Year 9 Students
I hope this letter finds you well. I am pleased to introduce the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE), which we are offering to Year 9 students this year.
The DofE is a respected programme that helps young people develop confidence, resilience, and independence. Students take part in four areas: Volunteering, Physical, Skills, and the Adventurous Journey. These encourage teamwork, leadership, and personal growth while allowing students to set and achieve their own goals. In addition to this the Duke of Edinburgh award is highly regarded by employers, apprenticeship providers, and universities.
The Adventurous Journey, which involves a planned expedition, is a highlight of the Award and develops problem-solving, teamwork, and self-reliance. To find out more at https://www.dofe.org/do/
The cost of enrolment is £35, covering registration, materials, and training equipment. This will need to be paid on ParentPay. An additional contribution of £30–£80 will be required for the expedition, depending on numbers and location. We are committed to inclusivity, so please contact us if financial support is needed. Students will also need to purchase some of their own equipment, such as walking boots and sleeping bags. More information is available on the DofE website.
To register, please complete the attached application form here by Friday 3rd October
We believe the DofE offers our students a rewarding opportunity to gain new skills, give back to the community, and create lasting memories. Should you have any questions, please contact me at adrian.nash@strood.latrust.org.uk.
Yours sincerely,
Mr Adrian Nash

DofE Enrolment – Key Information for Parents
When your child first signs in to eDofE, they will be asked to provide some personal details (e.g. contact details, ethnicity, personal circumstances, and any medical needs). This information helps Leaders to support participants during their DofE programme and is also used for the DofE’s reporting purposes. There is always a “prefer not to say” option.
By enrolling, your child agrees to manage their programme using the eDofE online system, which has its own terms and conditions (available at www.eDofE.org).
Information recorded in eDofE is used by the DofE Charity, the Licensed Organisation, and the DofE centre to:
- Monitor and support participation and progress.
- Support Leaders in running the programme.
- Improve the quality of DofE programmes.
The DofE Charity may also send useful updates, reminders, and opportunities to help participants complete their award. Emails about discounts, events, and wider charity news are only sent if you choose to opt in. You can unsubscribe at any time at www.dofe.org/preferences.
