Dear Parents/Carers,
The curriculum at Leigh Academy Strood is constantly evolving to ensure that we align with changes to the national curriculum as well as meet the needs of all of our pupils. Our subject leaders, supported by their departments, expertly and extensively review their curriculum plans each year as a result and we know that keeping up to date with this information is important to you. Therefore, we have included some updates to our curriculum pages on the Leigh Academy Strood website, to allow you greater insight into what is being delivered in classrooms.
The Middle Years Programme (MYP) is an incredibly rewarding and enriching experience for all of our pupils yet we are aware that some of the terminology used and the methods of assessment may be unfamiliar to you and so I once again encourage you to explore our MYP curriculum pages on our website to ensure you are well placed to support your child with their learning and the feedback provided via our parents evenings and student reports. Included on our Module 1 Overview is the Statement of Inquiry each subject area is exploring during the module as well as the Approach to Learning strategy being employed in lessons to help develop students skills and the method of assessment used. This is available here: https://leighacademystrood.org.uk/curriculum/ib-myp/module-review/
Our Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5 Module 1 Reviews also highlight the topics of study for the module and include helpful links to revision resources which both students and parents can make use of at home in preparation for the upcoming mock exams. These will be available via our website as of next week so please look out for further updates on these.
As well as our academic curriculum, our Personal Development curriculum is an integral part of our mission to develop all of our students into well rounded lifelong learners and active global citizens. Students will be exploring a variety of topics during their Period 1 form tutor sessions and Wednesday Period 5 Personal Development lessons as follows:
- Year 7: Relationships Transition to Secondary School
- Year 8: Relationships Types of Relationships/Managing relationships
- Year 9: Relationships Healthy and Unhealthy Relationships
- Year 10: Relationships Abusive Relationships and Online Safety
- Year 11: GCSE Examination Based Sessions
- Year 12: Skills for Success Motivation and Organisation
- Year 13: Planning for the Future Personal Statements and Advocacy
Thank you for your continued support in ensuring we provide the very best education that all of our students deserve.
Yours sincerely,
Mr C. Pleasant | Deputy Principal
