Marlowe Theatre Trip

Dear Parents/Carers

I hope this letter finds you well. We are pleased to inform you of an exciting new opportunity for our students to attend The Marlowe Theatre on Thursday 5th February 2026 to see ‘Sunny Afternoon. This trip aims to enrich our students’ understanding and appreciation of the performing arts, and is an excellent way to inspire students with the type of work they can create for the BTEC Drama and Dance and GCSE Music course that we provide here at Leigh Academy Strood. We have been very fortunate in receiving a discounted price on the sale of these tickets which on average would cost £40 a ticket.

Sunny Afternoon follows the story of British band legends The Kinks on their rise to fame. It features live music performed by the actors and dancers themselves, showcasing some of the most talented triple threat performers in the UK. The cost of the trip is £30 per student, which covers transportation to and from the theatre as well as the price of the performance ticket. Payments will need to be made via ParentPay no later than Friday 28th November. Please note this payment is non-refundable. We only have a limited number of tickets and spaces will be reserved on a first come first served basis. Once you have paid for the trip we ask that you complete the consent form here

On the day of the trip, students will need to meet in the restaurant at 12pm. Once students are registered we will depart the school and anticipate arriving at the Marlowe Theatre for 1:30pm. Students will have the opportunity to explore Canterbury High Street with enough time to get something to eat from the many vendors in the area, students entitled to a free school meal will be able to collect their packed lunch from Cucina before we depart the academy. We will make our way to the theatre at 2pm, after the show we will return to the academy with an estimated arrival time of 6:30pm. All students will be expected to be in school the next day without exception, failure to do will result in students not being able to participate in future trips.

Thank you so much for your generous support for the Performing Arts. I understand the current economic climate may cause concerns over the cost of trips and equipment for the Performing Arts. I would like to give you my guarantee that as a department we are working tirelessly to reduce the costs of these invaluable experiences to try and make them accessible for all. We are exceedingly grateful for all you are doing to support your child’s success within our subjects. If you have any questions or need further information, please feel free to get in touch with lauren.bassett@strood.latrust.org.uk.

Thank you for your continued support.

Yours sincerely,
