Meningitis Letter

Dear Parents and Carers,

We are writing to you as part of our commitment to the health and wellbeing of our students. You may be aware of recent reports regarding a small number of meningococcal (meningitis) cases within the wider Kent community.

While there are currently no confirmed cases within our academy, we believe it is a timely opportunity to remind our community of the symptoms to look out for and the preventative measures we can all take.

 The NHS provides comprehensive and  detailed guidance regarding Meningitis which can be found here covering;

  • Symptoms
  • Causes
  • Treatment
  • Complications
  • Vaccination

At Leigh Academy Strood, we are maintaining close contact with the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) and local health protection teams. Our first aid staff and college team have been briefed on early symptom recognition, and we continue to promote high standards of respiratory hygiene (Catch it, Bin it, Kill it) across all our the academy.

If you suspect your child is ill with these symptoms, please keep them at home and contact your GP or NHS 111 immediately. Please contact our attendance team should your child be absent from the academy.  All other pupils should attend the academy as per usual.

Further information can be found at Meningitis Now

Should you have any questions or queries please contact Julie Tingley via email  julie.tingley@strood.latrust.org.uk

Thank you for your continued support in keeping our school community safe.

Yours sincerely

Mr Jon Richardson | Principal
Leigh Academy Strood
