Dear Parent/Carer,
Re: Geography Field Trip to Strood and Rochester
11C1 and 11C2 on the Tuesday 16th September
11C3 and 11C4 on the Tuesday 23rd September
We are excited to inform you that your child will be taking part in a geography field trip to Strood and Rochester on either Tuesday 16th or Tuesday 23rd September. The aim of this trip is to investigate the varying levels of quality of life in the Medway towns. This will be achieved through primary data collection, including environmental quality surveys and questionnaires posed to the public. Students will be working in small groups, within a larger group starting either in Strood or Rochester High Street. Staff will divide the group once registered. Students will be monitored throughout the day and escorted via the footpath on the Rochester bridge when travelling between sites. The field trip will provide invaluable hands-on experience to support the students’ studies and is contributing to 15% of their final GCSE grade, this is why attendance is compulsory for all and will contribute towards their academy attendance.
Key Information:
- Date: According to groupings – Miss Stewart will notify 11A1 students which day they are going.
- Meeting Point:
Outside B&M in Strood Industrial Estate at 9:30 am (please ensure your child arrives on time).
- Return: Students will be dismissed from B&M at approximately 2:30 pm.
- Transport: Students will need to arrange their own transportation to and from Strood. Please ensure they have a way of getting to Strood High Street in the morning and home from Rochester at the end of the day. This needs to be highlighted on the consent form below.
- What to bring:
- A camera phone for data collection. (shared in your team is fine)
- A packed lunch or money for lunch (Please note free school meals will be provided for. Staff will collect these before leaving the school site)
- School uniform and a warm coat, as the weather can be unpredictable.
- Comfortable walking shoes for the day.
This field trip will be an excellent opportunity for students to engage directly with the data collection process and gain insight into real-world geography. We ask that students wear school uniform, but students can wear black trainers for comfort. Please ensure they are well-prepared for any changes in weather.
Parental Consent:
Please complete the consent form here by Monday 15th Sept 2025. If you have any concerns or require additional information, feel free to contact the school.
Thank you for your continued support. We are looking forward to an enriching and enjoyable day for your child.
Yours sincerely,
Miss Teri Stewart | Geography Department
Leigh Academy Strood
